Epipremnum amplissimum

Family Araceae

About

Epipremnum amplissimum is an evergreen climbing aroid from New Guinea to Vanuatu and northern Australia, a relative of the common pothos. Young plants, the form usually kept in cultivation, may carry blue-grey variegation.

Field notes

Morphology

An evergreen vine that climbs trees as an epiphyte. Unlike E. pinnatum it does not develop split or dramatically different leaves as it climbs: juvenile leaves are narrowly elliptic and simply grow longer and broader with age.

Distribution & habitat

Native from New Guinea to Vanuatu, including northern Australia.

Cultivation notes

Usually grown in its juvenile state, whose blue-grey variegation fades as the plant matures.
