A tropical pitcher plant endemic to the Pantaron Mountain Range in Mindanao, *Nepenthes pantaronensis* is notable for its close association with *N. sumagaya* on Mount Sumagaya, where hybridization has been observed.

History & etymology
The specific epithet pantaronensis refers to the Pantaron Mountain Range, where the species was discovered. Its recognition as a new species was announced online in September 2012.
